My QTVR for a Wrinkle in Time was shot at 11 a.m. on Sunday December 21st. I'm competing for the "Most Lo-Tech Wrinkle" by "Least Knowledgeable QTVRer" recognition. This is my second QTVR pano. Gory details:
Camera: old point and shoot, hand-held
Film: Fujifilm 200 ASA prints
Scanner: UMAX S-6E
Graphic manipulation: Photoshop 4. Saved as 252 x 3360 (both divisible by 4) Making panorama from PICT file: Make QTVR Panorama 1.0b4. Used 400 x 240 size (both evenly divisible by 4)
MoviePlayer 3: Save as, make self-contained.
On web page, embed size: 400 x 300.
Tested on 133MHz Pentium PC with NN 4 and MSIE 4 browsers.
Suffered from variation in value and color from frame to frame. Since my first pano was made from 9 files, I reasoned that if I had about 16-20, I could take the middles and they would match better. Not true. Now I just had more frames, each varying from each other. So you see the tacky and seamy result. It represents hours of pixel-pushing and learning new Photoshop tricks. So it is not done, but I got tired. I definitely will look into what it would take to get some help with the blending process.
Nestled in Silicon Valley, this is in Sunnyvale. Behind the "Space Body Shop" and "Beacon Lighting" you can see the coastal range that gives the name to Mountain View. The feature is the sculpture, Paseo de los Suenos, Pathway of Dreams. Its rift is aligned to the sun path. The summer sun beam is narrow, but the winter is broad. On the solstice, I went to the sculpture before dawn. Many people came to watch the sun stream through the rift, in the broadest path of the year. For pictures see the page listed below. I met a couple of Web programmer-entrepreneur types. When ready, their photos will be linked to the page.
Trivia: if you take the street running parallel to the sculpture, cross the intersection, in a few miles you are at 1 Infinite Loop, Apple HQ. I suppose they'll have to add some new icons to their sculpture lawn. Next to the jaggy oversized hand and pointer will be strange new eyes and pointers used in QTVR. Hey, that's where someone (me?) should do the next World Shoot--1 Infinite Loop!
